September
Hello Families,
I hope you enjoyed your week as much as 1H did! Hands down our favorite part was the apple picking field trip. After we experienced apple picking we reflected on all the parts of the trip. Then each student chose their favorite part of the day. Next he/she created an apple page in our first class book!
Another favorite this week was making apple sauce! Some descriptors used were delicious, tart, amazing, and yummy.
A huge THANK YOU goes out to all of our parent volunteers- we couldn't have done it without you!
Reminders:
Library books are due on Fridays. Just like Kindergarten, if your child forgets to return their book they will be able to choose a new book and put it aside to borrow the following week. Books can be returned to the blue bin in our classroom when you are finished reading them at home.
Summer Math and Reading records are being collected until September 30th!
This week in 1H:
We began our Investigation science unit by looking at what a scientist is, looks like, and does. We also explored Runkle's courtyard to practice our observation skills.
Writers Workshop we have written about our summers, apple picking, our hopes and goals for first grade, and class rules.
Reading Workshop has focused on Student of the Day. This year we are writing sentences. Paying close attention to sight words, beginning sentence structure, and word patterns we have already learned in kindergarten. We are also practicing reading fluency by choral reading each students All About Me paragraph.
This week in math we will continue our work with story problems and also work specifically with ten frames. These ten frames will help strengthen our 1-10 number sense skills.
We begin Handwriting next week by reviewing uppercase letters and then moving into practicing and using lowercase.
See you on Monday!
Ms. Haese
